When an institution in a developing country, and especially one of the world's Least Developed Countries, needs someone with scientific expertise, TWAS can help provide a seasoned professor. Institutions apply for this expert knowledge, and TWAS supports the professor's visit by helping to fund travel. Visiting professors typically teach courses at universities and help establish needed development projects in host countries.
Visiting Professors
A number of TWAS Fellows and TWAS Young Affiliates/Alumni will be offered appointments as TWAS Research Professors for one year, during which he/she will visit the host institution in a LDC for a period of two to four weeks. TWAS provides travel support while living expenses are covered by the host centre. NB: Only TWAS Fellows and TWAS Young Affiliates/Alumni are eligible for appointment. Requests need to be submitted by research groups/scientific institutions in LDCs.
This programme provides institutions and research groups in developing countries, especially the Least Developed Countries and those with limited outside contacts, with opportunities to establish long-term links with world leaders in areas of science other than mathematics and physics, and help develop capacity-building in their country.
