TWAS has announced that Brazil will host the 17th TWAS General Conference in Rio de Janeiro, from 29 Sept. to 2 Oct. in 2025.
The Brazilian Academy of Sciences will act as the host, and the event will be supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil.
The theme of the event will be science, technology and innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals, and addressing both gaps and opportunities in those areas for the global South. The aim is to highlight scientific excellence in the developing world and enhance ties between scientists globally, in particular in Latin America and the Caribbean.
TWAS General Conferences are showcases for scientific excellence in the developing world. They convene a range of participants—from the elite ranks of TWAS Fellows and TWAS prize winners, to government science ministers and presidents of universities and science academies. Events include panels that feature high-level experts, talks on science and sustainable development, and ceremonies that present science awards to their winners and welcome TWAS Fellows into the Academy.
The event will also include the 32nd TWAS General Meeting, a closed-door session at which TWAS Fellows and Young Affiliates discuss Academy matters.
