Maurice Tchuente, professor of Computer Science at the University of Yaounde I, Cameroon, has been awarded the 2008 CNR Rao Prize for Scientific Research.

Tchuente Wins 2008 CNR Rao PrizeMaurice Tchuente is an internationally recognized expert in computer science. He is considered one of the most prominent African researchers in his field and particularly well known for his theoretical results in systolic computation. In addition, Tchuente's exceptional competence and dedication to developing research and teaching activities in his native Cameroon and throughout Africa have gained him the respect and admiration of colleagues worldwide.

The CNR Rao Prize was established in 2006 by TWAS Founding Fellow and former president CNR Rao. The prize honours distinguished scientists living and working in the developing world, especially scientists from the world's scientifically and technologically lagging countries, who have made significant contributions to global science. The prize carries a cash award of US$5,000 and is presented once every three years. This year's award ceremony will take place at the Academy's 25th Anniversary Celebration in Mexico City in November 2008.
