In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fifteenth General Conference of TWAS was postponed and took place from 1 to 4 November 2021 online.
The General Conference was held thanks to the generous support of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).
The event began on 1 November with a two-hour General Meeting of TWAS Fellows and Young Affiliates to discuss Academy matters. It was followed by the General Conference on "Advancing frontier science, technology and innovation for SDGs in developing countries", featuring a high-level opening ceremony, a ministerial session, a keynote lecture by a Nobel laureate with the relevant symposia, a session dedicated to the event hosts, and presentations by TWAS Medal Lectures and TWAS-Lenovo Science Award winners.
Lectures by the recipients of the other 2020 TWAS awards, the 2020 TWAS-Siwei Cheng Award and the 2019–2020 TWAS Fellows Awards, were offered in a series of webinars that took place monthly from June 2021 and lead to the November General Conference. Future webinar series will include presentations by the newly elected Young Affiliates.
